What Time Do Hot Air Balloons Fly?
Your guide to the safest and most scenic flight times over Vilnius and Trakai.
Hot air balloon flights in Lithuania are carefully scheduled to match the calmest and safest weather conditions. Whether you're flying over Vilnius or the medieval beauty of Trakai, timing plays a key role in providing a smooth, breathtaking, and safe hot air balloon experience.
Summer Flight Schedule:
During summer (June to August), flights are scheduled only during the cooler parts of the day:
Morning flights: Start approximately 1 hour after sunrise
Evening flights: Begin around 2 hours before sunset
We avoid flying in the middle of the day due to strong thermal currents that form from the sun-heated ground. These conditions can cause turbulence and make flying unsafe.
Spring & Autumn Flight Times:
In early spring (April–May) and late autumn (September–October), daytime flights are sometimes possible when the air is cool and wind conditions are light.
This flexibility allows for midday departures in rare weather windows, especially on calm, sunny days.
Regardless of the season, we always plan flight times with two priorities in mind:
Safety
Panoramic views of Lithuania’s landscapes
Why Early Morning or Evening Is Best for Balloon Flights?
