When Does the Hot Air Ballooning Season Start and End?
Planning a hot air balloon ride in Lithuania? One of the most common questions we receive is:
“When is the best time to fly in a hot air balloon in Vilnius or Trakai?”
At Just Balloons, our regular flying season runs from 15 April to 31 October, depending on weather conditions. This is the prime season for hot air ballooning in Lithuania, offering the safest and most scenic experiences in the sky.
Spring & Autumn Flights: Calm Air, Vivid Views
Flights in early spring and late autumn are known for their calm weather, gentle winds, and breathtaking natural colors.
Spring reveals Lithuania’s awakening green landscapes and cherry blossoms.
Autumn offers panoramic views of golden forests, especially over Trakai and Vilnius Old Town.
These seasons are especially popular with photographers and couples looking for romantic or peaceful flights.
Summer Flights: Longer Days, Warmer Skies
The summer months (June to August) provide the widest flying window due to early sunrise and late sunset.
That means we can offer both morning and evening balloon rides — perfect for early risers or those chasing golden hour light.
However, summer also brings strong thermals, so we avoid midday flights for safety reasons.
Weather Dependency & Flexibility
Hot air balloon flights are entirely weather-dependent. For your safety, we only fly:
In dry weather
With light winds
With good visibility
Because of this, our season may start earlier or end later, depending on forecasted conditions. We constantly monitor weather updates and may reschedule your flight for the best possible experience.
